The vineyard

Evert Nijzink

Settler vineyards are situated on the terraces above the Okawa Stream, 25 kms west of Hastings.
The north facing vineyard overlooks the Okawa Valley and the gentle rolling hills upstream always ensure air movement through the vines, while protecting the vineyard from southerlies.
With Crownthorpe Settlement Road on one side, the remainder of the vineyard is surrounded by native bush.
The total area covers 6 acres or 2.5 ha. The first vines were planted in 1994 and plantings are Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and small amounts of Franc and Malbec.

What stands out in the wines is the depth and strength and the connection with the origin of the variety.
Of course the “terroir” is unique and speaks strongly in the wine as well. Being situated further inland means more heat during the day and cooler nights.
The soils are sandy loam on gravel with high silica content in the topsoil and a lime stone base.

Currently we can offer you the following wines:

  • 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot
  • 2015 Chardonnay
  • 2016 Gewürztraminer
